BBC Radio Tees asks the big question Is Hartlepool running out of water?

According to Graham Mann Water Industry expert of the UKs premier Business Water Comparison site Switchwatersupplier.com he contacted Gary Philipson at BBC Radio Tees over concerns a business in Hartlepool could only have a 3rd of the water they require for their new manufacturing site.

Graham acting on behalf of the customer requested a new water supply connection via Anglian Water who supply the water for the town.

Anglian Water replied stating: –

“Anglian Water cannot reserve capacity and therefore you are recommended to formally apply for a water connection at your earliest convenience.

Please note, that available capacity in our network can be reduced at any time due to increased requirements from existing businesses and houses, as well as from new housing and new commercial developments.

Anglian Water is committed to providing sustainably sourced and managed water to its customers and end-users.

The water resources management plan (WRMP) looks at the long term resource planning, whilst ensuring that we continue to meet statutory obligations. Balancing factors such as environmental protection and drought resilience whilst ensuring capacity for existing and potential future customers.

As a priority, Anglian Water will ensure that it can fulfill its statutory and regulatory obligations.

One such statutory duty being to supply water for domestic purposes, therefore we base decisions regarding new non-domestic demand on our WRMP forecasts, which includes growth and our modelling will identify water resource zones that are in surplus or balanced.

Based on our assessment of your criteria within our WRMP modelling, we do not have any forecast surplus in the Lincoln Zone.

On this basis we will have to decline to provide 0.072ML/d none domestic water, the maximum we can supply is 20m3 per day for your process use”

This is 40m3 per day short of the water required for manufacturing and production use from this new customer, which is quite frankly a huge reduction in the estimated water consumption critical to this new business in Hartlepool.

Graham Mann made contact with the research team at BBC Radio Tees and shortly after Gary Philipson at the radio station called and discussed the water situation.

The following day Gary gave Anglian Water the opportunity to reply on the Radio, the results may surprise you.
